This stunning Custom Design Home in Melbourne combines architectural mastery, fastidious finishes and construction excellence from LBD once again.
Officially a double storey extension, the project is essentially a knockdown rebuild on a land space of only 233m2. Save for a few existing wall frames, and retaining the front verandah and bedroom shape We kept front timber wall, boundary wall and 3m of a wall on the right, but all the plaster and weather board were replaced and the timber stud were all straightened. Also the verandah was completely replaced (with its classic nineteenth century fireplace) in its original position, and the hallway placement, it was out with the old and in with the new. Having been originally built in circa 1890, this terrace house had few redeeming structural supports, despite its character and historical features. We added a new concrete slab, restumped a small section We didn’t restump a small section, we completely replace the whole subfloor throughout, and completely transformed a tired old house into a glorious new family home, full of modern fixtures and fittings and masses of desired storage throughout.
LBD partnered with Holmachdesign to work with the owners to build a new boundary to boundary home, retaining a single floor frontage that soon soars to two-storey magnificence, with a new rear lawn area and cleverly designed outdoor entertaining areas – all of which provide living opportunities and maximum use of the property in every respect. Skylights and a towering void add sumptuous natural light to the open-plan Kitchen, Dining and Living areas that open onto the alfresco, covered deck and backyard. There’s a carport, bin space and a secluded washing line, and built-in planter boxes to allow this compact property the opportunity to capitalise on landscaping, whilst not compromising on buildable areas.
New aluminium windows and doors, a variety of solid, textured and timber claddings, rendered brick There wasn’t any redered brick and Colorbond® complement one another on both levels, and, naturally, six-star energy-efficiency is a highlight of the modern-blend design.
Our owners can now enjoy their upstairs Master Bedroom and Ensuite, use the back Study/Play area for whatever purpose they wish, and let the children sleep in peace in the other two ground floor bedrooms, with easy access to a beautiful Family Bathroom and Powder Room. They’re also delighted to have a mod-con Laundry and Mud Room for all of the usual necessities that face a growing family.
